Changing Seasons: Photographer to Visual Storyteller

Photography has been my passion for over four decades. When I take a picture, I’m freezing a moment in time. I’m typically telling a narrative, expressing an emotion, or sharing an idea. As a Visual Storyteller, I document the stories of how people are living their personal and professional lives. I capture the environments that surround them and events that are meaningful.

This has been a winter of preparation for me. After a couple of particularly challenging years, I’ve been able to spend time focusing on how I want to move forward in my personal and professional life. In 2008, I opened Image Media, LLC as a photography business and added a variety of digital services over the years. I’ve enjoyed building websites and creating digital marketing programs for a variety of clients.

The Visual Storyteller

My passion and purpose have become more closely aligned. For the past 14 years, I’ve been honored to be part of some of the most transitional and happiest moments in people’s lives. When I started my business, social media was becoming a force in the world of communication, and visual storytelling was key to its growth. It has been the core of everything in my business.

The technology has changed dramatically. The tools are more sophisticated and readily available to a large population. When you can take a photograph with a mobile phone, it’s easier to share your story. As a photographer behind a lens, I believe that it’s my responsibility to make the experience more effortless and purposeful. As a Content Creator, I understand how the images can help you tell your stories.

Professional Visual Storytelling

Telling stories is a creative, compelling way to educate your audience about your business. Photos showcase who you are, what you do, and how you do it. Your visual stories create a personal connection and simple understanding of what you have to offer. They illustrate how your services and products benefit your clients. They bring a human face to your brand.

An example of how to tell a professional visual story is detailed in How to Plan for a Visual Branding Photo Session. In this article, Alyssa Hawn and I collaborated on a digital project for launching her business as a holistic health coach.  We came up with an initial plan for creating her website and blog, and for sharing valuable resources in her social media platforms. Alyssa took all of it to another level!
